Biomedical Sciences ist der gemeinsame Promotionsstudiengang der Fachbereiche Veterinärmedizin und Biologie, Chemie und Pharmazie für die zukünftigen PhDs
Das Promotionsstudium Biomedical Sciences bietet ein strukturiertes postgraduales Ausbildungsprogramm auf dem weiten Gebiet der grundlagenorientierten und angewandten Lebenswissenschaften. Von der Erforschung einzelner Moleküle mit hoher medizinischer Relevanz über die Aufklärung der Mechanismen von auf den Menschen übertragbaren Infektionskrankheiten bis zu praxisnahen Projekten in der Patientenbetreuung und den Lebensmittelwissenschaften wird ein weites inhaltliches Spektrum angeboten. Dazu werden die Studierenden in wissenschaftliche Projekte eingebunden, die durch die Forschungsinhalte der beteiligten Arbeitsgruppen an den Fachbereichen Biologie, Chemie, Pharmazie sowie Veterinärmedizin der Freien Universität geprägt sind. Zusätzlich erhalten die Studierenden die Möglichkeit, an einer Vielzahl von Lehr- und Seminarveranstaltungen teilzunehmen, die auf eine wissenschaftliche Laufbahn in den Life Sciences vorbereiten sollen. Neben den relevanten Soft Skills einschließlich Vortragsrhetorik, Lehrdidaktik, Verfassen von Publikationen, Einwerben von Drittmitteln usw. sind darin auch zahlreiche fachlich hoch spezialisierte Seminare und Kurse enthalten, deren Inhalte von den beteiligten Wissenschaftlern in ihrer täglichen Arbeit gelebt werden. Die dreijährige Ausbildungszeit wird durch die Promotion im jeweiligen Fachbereich abgeschlossen. Zusätzlich erhält der Kandidat / die Kandidatin ein Teilnahme-Zertifikat sowie einen Transkript of Records. Der Fachbereich Veterinärmedizin verleiht seinen Absolventen dafür den Grad des Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Das Promotionsstudium Biomedical Sciences ist zeitlich unbegrenzt eingerichtet und unabhängig von einem externen Förderinstrument. Es bestehen umfangreiche Vernetzungen und Einbindungen in lokale Förderprogramme, z.B. der DFG, und regionale Verbundprojekte in den Lebenswissenschaften.
Das Promotionsstudium Biomedical Sciences ist ein Mitgliedsprogramm der Dahlem Research School, welche viele weitere Kurse anbietet.
Biomedical Sciences is the joint doctoral program of the School of Veterinary Medicine and the department of Biology, Chemistry and Pharmacy for future PhDs
The Biomedical Sciences doctoral program offers a structured postgraduate training program across the broad field of basic and applied life sciences. From research on individual molecules of high medical relevance, through elucidating the mechanisms of infectious diseases transmissible to humans, to practice-oriented projects in patient care and food sciences, a broad spectrum of topics is offered. To this end, students are involved in scientific projects shaped by the research activities of the participating research groups in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine at Freie Universität. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of lectures and seminars designed to prepare them for a scientific career in the life sciences. In addition to relevant soft skills including public speaking, teaching methodology, writing publications, securing external funding, etc. the program also includes numerous highly specialized seminars and courses whose content is actively applied by the participating researchers in their daily work. The three-year training program is completed with a doctorate in the respective department. In addition, the candidate receives a certificate of participation in the structured doctoral program and a transcript of records. The School of Veterinary Medicine awards its graduates the degree Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
The Biomedical Sciences doctoral program is established for an indefinite period and is independent of external funding sources. There are extensive networks and ties to local funding programs, such as the DFG, and regional collaborative projects in the life sciences.
The Biomedical Sciences doctoral program is a member program of the Dahlem Research School, which offers many additional courses.
