The European College of Veterinary Public Health (ECPVH) organizes a residency training for obtaining a Diplomate of Veterinary Public Health with specialization in "Food Science" or "Population Medicine". Residents complete a three year training program including courses on different topics as well as their own research projects. Alternatively, extra-occupational residency programs are possible. The training ends with examinations to become a Diplomate of ECVPH.
Currently, two 50%-positions for the residency program exist within the institute. The training at the institute takes place under the umbrella of the ECVPH platform Berlin in cooperation with other research institutions in Berlin.
Residents in Berlin learn together
The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung; BfR) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine FU Berlin are in the future jointly taking part in educating residents of the European College Veterinary Public Health (ECVPH). Local networks between diplomats and residents facilitate access to continuing education, for example through discounts in registration fees for conferences in Berlin or through offering courses or seminars especially for residents. The platform is also useful for the development and implementation of the individual residency programs and for identifying a suitable advisor for current and future residents. Furthermore, the continuous exchange of information between diplomats and residents facilitates successful completion of the program and preparation for the final exams.
Diplomats of BfR and FU Berlin organize the Platform together and build the board. The council consists of diplomats, active residents and associated partners. Other partners in Berlin and surrounding areas are invited to become part of the platform and participate in its activities.
The platform organizes biannual meetings, where participants report about courses, the program and annual reports. Additionally, half-day workshops about relevant topics are organized regularly. Furthermore, the platform offers courses over several days with external lecturers. A current overview about these and other events is displayed below.
