Finally (also) in presence again: The 23rd Symposium for Meat and Poultry Hygiene was a complete success!

News from Mar 06, 2023

After 2 years in a row, due to the pandemic, the symposium on Meat and Poultry Hygiene was an online-only event, this year it was held in hybrid format and thus again in the Martin-Lerche lecture hall of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). The conference is organized in close cooperation between the Center for Veterinary Public Health of the School of Veterinary Medicine and the BfR. A total of 22 interesting presentations were given on topics related to meat and poultry hygiene, meat hygiene law, animal welfare during transport and slaughter, Veterinary Public Health, and education and training, with lively discussions in the lecture hall as well as via online chat. The hybrid format was very well received and overall the conference had a record attendance of over 500 participants, including meat hygienists from academia, industry and authorities from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. While the online participants benefited from easy access, the on-site breaks were used for networking and good conversations over coffee and cake. We are very happy about the good feedback of the participants and look forward to next year, when it will be called again:

“Let's meat again” am March 5 und 6, 2024.
