9th International Meeting on Marek’s Disease and Avian Herpesviruses
Welcome from the Organizing Committee
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We would like to cordially invite you to attend the 9th International Meeting on Marek’s Disease and Avian Herpesviruses that will be held in Berlin, Germany, from June 24-28, 2012. Most of you will recognize that the traditional name of the meeting was modified to include other avian herpesviruses such as Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus (ILTV), Turkey Herpesvirus (HVT) and Duck Enteritis Virus (DEV). So if you are working on a herpesvirus that infects one of our feathered friends, come to the meeting and share your data with a friendly group of colleagues!
We will have the meeting under the motto of “unification” for two reasons. Firstly, having the meeting back in Berlin is uniting loose ends and closes a circle, as the first International Meeting on Marek’s Disease was held in this very city in 1978. Back then, the city was divided and very much the symbol of a divided country, a divided continent, and a divided world. Since the tumbling of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the city has become a symbol of unification and cultural diversity. We therefore hope to welcome guests from all over the world. Secondly, we aim at providing a roof for research on the entire group of avian herpesviruses and the many different aspects of the diseases they are causing. We will have sessions that focus on the molecular mechanisms of the viruses’ life cycles, on pathogenesis, prevention and therapy, epidemiology, and field problems. Rest assured that the Scientific Advisory Board will make sure that you will find a comfortable place to present and discuss your data.
Please come back to this website on a regular basis and forward the link to anybody that is interested in the topic and may be willing to attend. We will provide updates on the website on a regular basis. Abstract Submission and Registration will be open by the end of the year 2011.
Again, we hope you will be able to attend the 9th International Symposium on Marek’s Disease and Avian Herpesviruses in Berlin next year. We promise to do our best to make this a memorable scientific event and personal experience. We are confident that Berlin and its international flair and plethora of cultural offerings will come to our aid in this endeavor.
