Training as a specialist veterinarian / Diplomate (ECVP / ACVP)
As a certified training center, we train veterinary pathology specialists at national, European and international level for ECVP and ACVP diplomas.
Training to become a specialist veterinarian
You can qualify as a specialist veterinarian at the Institute. The training period is 5 years, further information can be found on the homepage of the Berlin Veterinary Chamber.
Training to become a Diplomate
The Institute also offers preparation for the examination at the European or American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP / ACVP). The ECVP is part of the umbrella organization of European colleges for specialization / further training.
European Board of Veterinary Specialization (EBVS)
The EBVS is made up of one representative from each of the colleges currently represented in Europe. Members are the colleges, each of which nominates one representative and one substitute representative.
The EBVS Board (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer) is elected at the annual General Assemblies in Brussels (Belgium). In addition, the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), the Federation of Veterinarians in Europe (FVE) and the American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS) each send one participating observer.
All colleges report directly to the EBVS. The EBVS sets the guidelines for the recognition of specialization areas, coordinates their establishment, monitors the activities of the individual colleges and keeps a register of diplomates and graduates. Specialization areas must be supported by scientific findings and evidence-based medicine (thus excluding e.g. veterinary homeopathy).
