In this category we find applicants who are German citizens who either achieved the German or a foreign entrance requirement for higher education or citizens with other nationalities who have the German entrance requirement for higher education.

Foreign applicants in this category have to apply for their desired course of study at hochschulstart.de (see above, No. 1)

 In this category belong

• Foreign citizens of the EU, e.g. citizens of a member state of the EU AND Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway
• So called „Bildungsinlaender“, meaning those foreign or stateless citizens who achieved the German requirement for higher education. This also applies to foreigners who meet the requirement for higher education through another course of study
• Other family members living in the Federal Republic of Germany in the sense of the article 10 of the European Decree (EWG) NO 1612/88 of citizens of another European Memberstate or equal, as long as these citizens are employed in the Federal Republic of Germany

Foreigners with foreign entrance requirement for higher education being interested in applying at Freie Universität Berlin may sent their application to uni-assist. They check if the application meets the formal requirements. The decision about the admission is made by Freie Universität Berlin. The checking of the application is liable to costs.
