Isabel Schermuly publishes "Paper of the Month"

Ms. Isabel Schermuly received an award as first author of the "Paper of the Month" from the Department of Veterinary Medicine in April 2025. Co-authors are Stella Romanet, Amlan K. Patra, Lucia Mastrototaro, Andreas Lemme, Robert Pieper, Jürgen Zentek and Jörg R. Aschenbach. The manuscript entitled "Transport of neutral amino acids in the jejunum of pigs with special consideration of L-methionine" was published in the renowned journal Nutrients with an impact factor of 4.8 and received more than 1000 downloads in the first quarter after publication. In terms of content, the manuscript focuses on the influence of various methionine supplements used in practice on amino acid transport in the intestine. In the present study, no difference was found between the effects of the various supplements. However, the results suggest that the effect of methionine supplements on amino acid absorption is significantly influenced by secondary factors such as subclinical inflammatory processes or the protein composition of the feed. Accordingly, the type of methionine supplement should be selected on an individual basis, taking into account specific external factors.
