Qualification Concept

RTG 3096 study program aims to promote a One Health approach to train next generation helminthologists.

Central to the qualification concept is the interdisciplinary research project, bridging at least two One Health areas, namely human, animal, and environmental health. The research project is flanked by a tailor made educational program and individualised career advancement & mentor support.

The overall aim of RTG 3096 is to equip the next generation of One Health helminthologists with the skills to conduct wide-ranging, forward-looking scientific studies on helminths in humans, animals and the affected anthropogenic environment.

RTG-specific educational program:

  • weekly One Health lecture series conducted by our internal PI’s
  • bi-monthly guest seminar series. Here, you - the doctoral candidates - invite, arrange and co-host global health and public health experts, covering not only the latest hot topics but also allowing you to interact and become professionally close with key opinion leaders on multiple levels.
  • quarterly career seminar series offer the doctoral researchers the chance to align closely with predominantly female role models who share not only their expertise but over a morning tea valuable personal insights of their own career pathway decisions, guiding with informal tips and tricks.
  • regular internal networking events such as the cross-presentation day to practise scientific thinking and communication beyond one’s own research focus as well as RTG funded sessions at international conferences, also organised by the doctoral students.
  • annual German-Kenyan Colloquium
  • Field training of individualised projects in Kenya, which are initiated, organised and managed by the doctorate researchers. Here, the doctorate students will apply for funding of their very own project ideas to realise their mini-project, an essential first step to become independent global thinking scientists.
  • hands-on technical skill courses offered by RTG 3096 PIs.
