The graduate training is completed with additional scientific activities by providing ample opportunities to directly implement the skills acquired in workshops and to foster a network in order to advance in their career. The effort put into inviting and organizing lecturers and other activities such as supervision by doctoral researchers of a trainee, bachelor or master student as well as co-organizing curricular elements, e.g. new workshops and science outreach activities are explicitly acknowledged in terms of credit points.

As the doctoral researchers advance in their own projects, they will also be asked to participate in organizing the annual RTG 2046 retreat or the integrated focus session in 2021 and 2023 or the planned focus workshops at the DGP (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Parasitologie) meetings in 2020, 2022 and 2024. The latter connects them directly to a relevant society. In the second year, doctoral researchers are particularly encouraged to publish their first set of original research data as first author in international scientific journals. Ultimately, this should culminate in writing a successful research grant application.
