Examination for liver disease

Liver diseases are not very common in horses, but are a serious problem in the context of reduced performance and emaciation. In addition to clinical and special laboratory diagnostic examinations, an ultrasound examination and, if necessary, a liver biopsy (Fig. 1) are essential in order to make an accurate diagnosis.
