Yersinia (Y.) enterocolitica is a causative agent for foodborne gastrointestinal infections in humans. Pigs are an important reservoir for pathogenic Y. enterocolitica. It has been shown that Y. enterocolitica can be transmitted to humans by consumption or handling of contaminated, raw or insufficiently cooked pork.
