In the field of poultry nutrition, the focus is on feeding intensity and performance. The use of fibrous feed compounds is investigated and the possibility of reducing nutrient uptake in slow-growing chickens (dual purpose chicken). This is intended to contribute to animal welfare, taking into account ecological and economic concerns.
Nutrition and antibiotic resistance
The possibilities for influencing the occurrence of antibiotic resistance is a relatively new work area. Here, studies are being conducted on the occurrence of antibiotic resistance in pigs and chickens. Factors could be identified that favour the occurrence of multi-resistant bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, and on the other hand also reduce them. This is an active contribution to consumer protection since the transmission of multi-resistant bacteria is a serious health hazard for the consumer.
