Magnesium in Translational Medicine 2016

Mountains near Liptovsky Mikulas

18-21 February 2016 - Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia

Dear colleagues,

following the successful 1st European Magnesium Workshop that took place in Smolenice castle in May 2014, it is my pleasure to announce the 1st World Magnesium Workshop dedicated to Magnesium in Translational medicine. The workshop will take place in Liptovsky Mikulas (cultural and administrative center of the beautiful region of Liptov) from 18th to 21th February 2016. Our aim is to attract mostly young colleagues who are in the process of establishing their career by investigating various aspects of magnesium action in basic and/or applied science and to accommodate the "field newcomers" amongst established members of the magnesium research community. This time, our major priority will also be to create a suitable and stimulating atmosphere for fruitful scientific discussions and the making of scientific contacts.  To this end, we have once again incorporated into the program of the conference a generous number of "Speaker's Corners", a format in which anyone can speak her/his mind and ask the experts any questions related to the field. Each session will consist of a keynote delivery by a high-ranked field specialist (invited, 40 minutes), followed by 25-minute talks selected by the research committee. The best student talk will qualify for the Award of the Scientific Committee (500 Euro and Trophy). The best poster presentation will qualify for the Scientific Committee Poster Prize (250 Euro). All workshop participants will have the opportunity to vote for the "Vox Populi Prize for the Best Poster" (250 Euro). One of the oral presentations will be awarded with the Rudolf J. Schweyen Trophy for Outstanding Work in Researching Molecular Aspects of Magnesium Homeostasis (500 Euro + Trophy).

Scientific program will be announced in the first circular that will be published in September 2015.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Liptovsky Mikulas!

On behalf of the organizing and scientific committees

Dr.rer.nat. Martin Kolisek Ph.D.
