The FAO Reference Centre for Veterinary Public Health at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Freie Universität officially opened
We are pleased to announce that the official opening of the new FAO Reference Centre for Veterinary Public Health at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of FU Berlin took place on January 17, 2013.
Guests of Honour were Dr. Katinka de Balogh, Senior Officer VPH, FAO Rome, and Dr. Karin Schwabenbauer, Chief Veterinary Officer, Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, Germany.
Besides the Dean and members of the Faculty and the veterinary community of Berlin and Brandenburg the ceremony was attended by the 1st Vice-President of the Freie Universität Berlin, Prof. Dr. Monika Schäfer-Korting, the President of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Prof. Dr. Andreas Hensel, the President of the Federal German Veterinary Chamber, Prof. Dr. Theo Mantel, and the President of the Berlin Veterinary Chamber, Dr. Heidemarie Ratsch.
The newly designated FAO Reference Centre for Veterinary Public Health (FAO-RC-VPH) at the Veterinary Faculty consists of the Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology, the Institute of Food Hygiene, the Institute of Animal Welfare and Behavior and the International Animal Health. The FAO-RC-VPH is led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Reinhard Fries as Executive Director and administered by Dr. Maximilian Baumann as Head of the Centre.
The FAO Reference Centre for Veterinary Public Health at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Freie Universität Berlin is providing technical expertise, diagnostic services, laboratory and field training, coordinating research and developmental studies, and as such contributing to FAO member countries and FAO projects.
