PhD Program of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, and the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy at the Freie Universität Berlin
The Dahlem Research School (DRS) Biomedical Sciences offers a structured post-graduate training program in the fields of basic and applied life sciences. These research fields include a wide variety of topics, from studies on single molecules of medical relevance and the elucidation of the transmission mechanisms of infection diseases, to projects with a more practical orientation in patient care and food science.
Students participating in the DRS are working within research projects of participating academic groups in the areas of biology, chemistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine of the Freie Universität Berlin. DRS Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of courses, aimed at preparing them for an academic career in Life Sciences. These include relevant key competencies courses, such as the principles of teaching, the writing of publications and grant applications, as well as specialized courses and seminars on a broad range of research methods and tools. The three-year training program is completed by graduation and the candidate will receive a DRS certificate. The Department of Veterinary Medicine awards its graduates in the DRS Biomedical Sciences the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
The DRS doctoral study in Biomedical Sciences is independent of external funding and qualified students can enroll at any time. The DRS has an extensive network and is integrated in local funding programs, for example from the DFG, as well as regional collaboration projects in Life Sciences.
